Instead of "correcting"her, it would be far better to find out why she is growling/snapping at such a young age. She could be in pain from an injury you know about, she could be frightened from being played with too roughly or some other event. She may not be feeling too well. The first thing to do is to have her examined by a vet. Be sure to tell the vet about her behavior.

If the vet can find nothing, then you should choose to either consult with a applied animal behaviorist or return the puppy to the breeder for a refund. "Correcting" the behavior could make it WORSE, especially if you use any kind of forcefulness, anger or punishment. Violence begets violence. It is far better to over with a better puppy from a breeder you contacted through the Siberian Husky Club of America website than to try to "fix" a dog who may have a genetic predisposition to aggressive behavior or perhaps some other problem, such as brain damage, that you can not repair no matter how hard you try or how much you spend on it.

  6. Stephen Schlitz says:

    Hello Teresa,
The dogs are a breed called Alaskan Huskies. Lela and Harry presented the Albany Library with a book about the sled dogs in Denali National and the book describes the dogs as: “Variable mix of dogs, selected for performance rather than appearance; not a standardized breed such as Siberian Husky or Malamute.”
And I agree – very cute!

  7. Foster Dogs says:

Nala is beautiful! Based on her blue eyes (Purebred Malamutes have brown eyes, never blue) and the way her ears are close together and more on the top of her head, she looks like a Siberian Husky. How much does she weigh? possible she could be a Husky/Mal mix. Thanks for visiting! We sometimes do events in New Jersey, we have a few volunteers there!
