Obama News – Results of Obama Polls Show His Waning Popularity

President Obama – He came into White House in a blaze of glory after the most interesting elections in the history of America. There were many reasons why the whole world was looking closely at Senator Obama who was hoping to become the President of USA. If he were elected, he would be the first Black American President in the history of America. Obama, the Senator was little known until then. He rose suddenly into prominence from obscurity. On hearing the news about Obama, the senator, becoming president, the whole world sat up and watched.

Victory to Democracy- It was considered the golden day in the history on America, when Obama won the elections. It was a victory to democracy and the people of America who would look past color, race and background. But why did his popularity wane over time? There are quite a number of reasons why it could have affected the way Americans think. I will address just a few of them here. The Polls indicated that a vast majority supported the president soon after the elections. But the polls show that his support has dropped drastically in the recent past. Why?

Change- America was promised change. This meant that the people would have a better economic future. Those who lost their jobs would be able to find jobs easily. People who were on the verge of losing their houses would be able to retain their dream homes. The businesses would prosper and start creating new jobs. The war would be over because President Obama would sit down with the terrorists and help them to see things our way. In short, we would see a golden era for America.

The Stimulus Packages- Everyone hoped that there would be more jobs for the jobless after the Bailouts. But unfortunately things did not work out that way. Instead of seeing the stimulus money as ‘props’ to get out of the weak economy, many business owners became uneasy about their future and decided to wait it out. Even the hard line Democrats began to have doubt about the wisdom of some of the changes that were taking place right before their eyes.

Healthcare Bill- The Healthcare Bill was passed although the majority of Americans did not like it. The burden it placed on the tax payer would change American economy for generations to come. People did not want future generations to suffer as a result of our folly. The bill was supposed to solve the healthcare crisis. On the other hand, many Americans are very angry that the country has got into more debt since Obama got into The White house. Moreover, the people did not like the way the bill was passed.

Citizenship- Right from the beginning, there are some people who did not believe that the President was a ‘natural-born’ citizen of America. Videos and articles continued to surface challenging his perceived identity. There were rumors of him coming to America as an Indonesian foreign student.

Religion- There were also many who question the President’s religious beliefs. “How can Obama quote Quran so freely while he cannot speak about the truths in the Bible?” “Why would he soft-pedal terrorist activities while he most Americans wanted to protect America by openly criticizing terrorism? How could an American President cozy up to the avowed enemies (like Iran and Venezuela) of the US while showing a cold shoulder to our long time ally, Israel? There are some who believe that he is not really a Christian. The Christian community was upset when the National Day of Prayer was not observed in The White House the traditional way.

Moral Issues- Many American who hold strong traditional, moral values see the changes in the country as challenges to the American values. Most Americans believe that marriage should be between a male and a female. They also believe in the sanctity of life and condemn abortion. So they do not want leftist ideas to be promoted.

Terrorism- People who have seen the vulnerability of America since the 9-11 attack are very concerned about the security of our country. The violence along the southern border and concern about the safety of Americans have made the issue of Immigration a hotly debated topic at all levels. Since many people perceive President Obama as an advocate of illegal aliens, they are concerned about the infiltration of terrorists through the weak border. The failed attacks by the terrorists like the ‘underwear bomber’ and others have caused the Americans to desire stronger laws to protect themselves.

Tea Party Movement- The middle class Americans who are disappointed with the way America has changed in the Obama administration, want to get back to their traditional values. They have had significant backing of many middle class women.

The question now remains, “Will President Obama survive the challenges America faces today? Will he help the people to have more confidence in his political, social and economic policies?” Will he get another chance to prove to America and to the world, that his policies were indeed the best for the country? Only history will tell.
