Quite easily the most exciting matchup of week 2 is the San Diego Chargers vs. the New England Patriots. New England QB Tom Brady is coming off a week where he absolutely destroyed the Dolphins and threw for an untouchable 517 yards and 4 touchdowns.
San Diego Chargers QB Phillip Rivers also had a great day himself last week. He completed 33 of 48 passes for 335 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The two Super Bowl contenders matchup looks like it could turn this game into a shootout. If only it werent for the two stellar defenses of the Chargers and the Patriots.
The Chargers defense made Vikings QB Donovan McNabb look like a disoriented rookie last week when he threw for only 39 yards the whole game.
On the other side, it seems almost impossible to stop Patriots WR Wes Welker from having an incredible game. Welker caught 8 passes for 160 yards including a 99-yard touchdown where he stiff-armed the last defender and ran untouched for the last 50 yards.
The Patriots run defense is up against the tandem team of Chargers running backs Ryan Matthews and Mike Tolbert. Both Matthews and Tolbert carried the ball 12 times, and they had 45 and 35 yards respectively. They generate a constant threat to break through the line and turn on the speed for a score.
Since the Patriots will more than likely force the Chargers into more 3rd and long situations, the Chargers will have to rely heavily on the pass. This isnt a concern for Phillip Rivers, but he has his work cut out for him against the Patriots pass rush.
As long as the Patriots have Tom Brady at the helm, they are going to be playoff contenders. Thats not to say that Patriots RBs Danny Woodhead and BenJarvus Green-Ellis arent great running backs, but the San Diego run defense is always a tough matchup.
Tom Brady and the Patriots may not have another 622 total offensive yard game, but expect them to light up the scoreboard in their home opener and douse the Chargers.

I think he is right on. Just watching his manurisms on the field makes me want to puke.
That's all right
I actually live in New England and say that everything beyond New York City is Texas
actually anything to the south of NYC is "The South" and everything to the west is "The West"
because it is
I have to be honest Mike. After much thinking I say that the Patritos are going to win but not by much. Each time they have one the Superbowl it has only been by three points. I say they win by about 10 pts max. This is a very explosive team. Though the Giants remind me of the team that won Superbowl 36. Not too many people thought the Patriots could beat the Rams but they pulled it off.
oh, mini was my fav too, TIM, but funny – i was just about to flag to 3-Putt that his monkey thang was also airing last week. i was bored by it, already – ya know – with all my one hour of tv viewing per week.
but momma Q was kind of rolling over that one…so, i guess she agrees with humor.
