Francisco The Man

Born amidst the 7-Elevens and white trash comradery of 's suburban desert, Los Angelenos Francisco the Man grew up the way bands used to grow up. Huddled in the corners of their parents' garages. In church halls. In basements. Passing cheap beer, pissing each other off, and dreaming of the day they might continue to do the same without a dead end day job. Francisco the Man is indeed a real band from the days of yore, yet their sound is anything but dated: locomotive Crazy Horse jams with squalling feedback, the punky spirit of 1977 , sunburnt shoegaze hymnals, and chunky Motown grooves, all saturated in rose-hued California power pop. The guys latest release is just as sweet. Right when the band's euphoric crests have you shaking off goosebumps, Francisco the Man pulls the plug at the most dramatic moment to send you floating dreamily down a river of ambience reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. It's perfect, really. The only thing left is to drift off and tune in to the earnest, idiosyncratic vocals of singer Scotty Cantino, who stands out from his peers as one of the few true innovators of modern guitar pop. Evocative of a young Doug Martsch, Cantino's sanguine and nostalgic lyricism hearkens back to those early memories of suburban paradise, with all the heart and pluck of a wisened street child who never forgot where he came from. Their new 7" drops August 7th via Small Plates Records. "psychedelic guitars, fuzzed out melodies and a deep love for the wall of sound" – YVYNYL 'music transcribing heavy influences of psychedelic rock alongside hints of post-punk, manifesting a gauntlet of wavering sing-alongs and power chords.' – Indie Ball "Francisco The Man play a type of sunny, post-punk guitar rock that's all been all but absent from the indie rock scene since the early/mid-2000′s… Broken Arrows" won me over immediately with it's hook-filled, shoegaze-y guitar riffs and exuberant melody. The last half of the song is absolute bliss, indulging in nearly four minutes of some seriously enthusiastic guitar jamming" – Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good "Broken Arrows is pure energy" – I Guess I'm Floating "L.A.-based Francisco The Man makes reverb-drenched, ebullient indie rock." – Gold Soundz "[Francisco the Man's came] just in time for the warming temperatures as it would make a great passenger for a destination-less cruise along the PCH" – Good For Your Ears "Surfer aesthetic paired with sixties AM makes it something of a perfect jam…" – Friends With Both Arms

Earthquake [Blu-ray] Reviews

Earthquake [Blu-ray]

Charlton Heston leads an all-star cast in an epic film about ordinary citizens who must come together in the face of an unstoppable natural disaster! When the most catastrophic earthquake of all time rips through Southern California, it levels Los Angeles and sends shockwaves through the lives of all who live there. Now strangers must become heroes as the city struggles to get to its feet before the next terrifying aftershock hits! Also starring Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Lorne Greene, Victoria Principal, GeneviŠve Bujold and Richard Roundtree, Earthquake combines outstanding performances with Academy Awardr winning sound and groundbreaking special effects. The disaster-movie trend of the early and mid-1970s was starting to wear out its welcome when Earthquake was released in 1974. It’s another one of those enjoyably mindless all-star marathons, and the title tells you all you need to know about the plot. Charlton Heston offers his trademark brand of macho courage as the citizens of Los Angeles brace for the Big One--an earthquake that rattles the city to its crumbling foundation. It's got all the sophistication of a Love Boat episode, but the movie's momentum scores high marks (at least on the Richter scale), and the Oscar-winning sound design and special visual effects are still impressive, especially when you consider that advanced computer-graphics effects were still two decades in the future. Genevieve Bujold adds a touch of class to the all-star ensemble, and of course, what self-respecting disaster flick would be complete without a role for George Kennedy? In more ways than one, this cheesy movie rocks! (If you want to re-create the movie's original sound process known as "Sensurround," you’ll just have to crank up the bass and subwoofer on your home theater system until plaster cracks and windows shatter!) --Jeff Shannon

Kenny Luck Announced as Keynote Speaker for Launch of a New Mens Movement at Saddleback Church

Lake Forest, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2013

Saddleback Church will be launching their next Church to Church movement on April 13 with IGNITE 2013. Featuring Kenny Luck (Author, Saddlebacks Pastor of Men and founder of http://www.EveryManMinistries.com) as the Keynote Speaker, this inaugural event will kick off a movement that will begin in the nine and twelve International Saddleback Churches as well as a worldwide network that reaches nearly every denomination through live events and video on demand.

Modern culture has yet to see what God can do through a spiritually empowered community of men out of a local church who are yielded aggressively, cohesively, and visibly to His purposes, explains Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church. I believe God has called the men of Saddleback Church to model the process and show the power of spiritually strong men for a waiting world. Our men are fully capable of leading the way, modeling a movement, and waking up the sleeping giant of todays worldGods men in the local church. We know what to do and how to do it. IGNITE 2013 is the ministry launch of the next great season of mens lives in our church which will explode out to the world.

Since its infancy, Saddleback Church has made it a priority to launch church to church ministries when a great need is discovered, such as the Purpose Driven Movement, Celebrate Recovery and the Small Group movement. These tested models have become the blueprint for churches and ministries worldwide to have the resources they need to meet the needs of their communities and challenge their members to become vibrant disciples of Christ.

IGNITE 2013 is the catalytic event connected to the Sleeping Giant movement, which is already detonating a ripple effect of health in Christian men. Simply put, when Christian men become healthy, there is less suffering in the world. Once these pain points are exposed, men of the church are enabled and empowered to fix those things that culture breeds that need to be fixed. By starting first at a family and church level, then growing into a local, national and global movement, healthy men who are focused on living the work of Christ will change the landscape of justice and cultivate a worldwide conscience.

2000 years ago a super-explosion rocked the world. God filled a small group of men with his Spirit, they stood together at a specific moment in time, and it was clear to the watching world that something had gotten into them, explains Kenny Luck. In a way never before seen, they began to turn the broken male culture of their day on its head. The watching world, including the women and children connected to these men, were shocked by what they saw and experienced. What exactly did they see? What was the response?

Men stopped competing and started connecting. Men aggressively pursued Gods purposes and couldnt get enough of His Word. Men began reducing the loads of others versus burdening them. They began raising the spirits of others versus bringing them down. They began relieving pain versus creating suffering. Gods men began reaching souls and transforming lives by the thousands. This massive, unexplainable move of God upon men ignited a revolution called Christianity and birthed Western Civilization.

Featuring general sessions and breakout workshops covering a variety of issues facing men today, IGNITE 2013 promises to inspire Christian men to stand together as the men of the early church did, making a strong decision to be loyal brothers, servants and messengers of God. Now, just as in the book of Acts, men are gathering and igniting for the glory of God.

Pentatonix

A cappella sensations and winners of season 3 of NBC's The Sing-Off, Pentatonix are taking instrument-free music far beyond anyone's wildest expectations. Named after the world's most widely recognized five-note musical scale, this vocal quintet has transformed one of pop music's purest and most soulful expressions into an exciting future, filled with limitless sonic possibility. Pairing their intricate arrangements with cleverly re-imagined pop songs, Pentatonix have quickly cultivated a sound and style that is entirely unique and undeniably infectious. Pentatonix is comprised of lead vocalists Scott Hoying, Kristie Maldonado and Mitch Grassi, vocal bass Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin "K.O." Olusola and, while the individuals would maintain that each of their fellow band members is irreplaceable, the fact remains that 24-hours before their audition for The Sing-Off they still hadn't all officially met. A freshman at The University of , Scott decided to audition for the show and enlisted childhood friends and fellow Arlington, Texas-natives Kirstie and Mitch. As a high school vocal trio, they had found success both locally and online thanks to their cover of Lady Gaga's "Telephone." Determined to add depth and a distinctive dynamic to the group, Scott set out to add more vocalists, first adding Avi, who'd built himself a reputation as one of the most talented vocal basses in Southern California, and eventually took to YouTube where he found the video for "Julie-O," featuring Kevin's cello-boxing (simultaneously beatboxing and performing the song on his cello). Finally a fully formed group, Pentatonix perfected their sound (and their chemistry) throughout the season, naturally developing a signature style and a knack for arranging songs that pulled equally from the five individuals' strengths. Despite drawing from a dizzying eclectic set of musical genres – the group cites pop, jazz, r&b, indie, folk, dubstep and electronica as just a few of their inspirations – the quintet seemed to mesh magically, evident in their modern interpretation of The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star," or their epic adaptation of Florence and the Machines' "The Dog Days Are Over." Before long, Pentatonix had become a legitimate musical force, armed with a collective confidence and swagger that would eventually propel them to win the competition. Now six months removed from The Sing-Off, Pentatonix – who have all relocated to Los Angeles – have continued to build upon their already fiercely loyal fanbase, introducing a slew of new material via their YouTube channel, including covers of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" and Fun's "We Are Young." The two videos – featured by Perez Hilton, The Huffington Post, RyanSeacrest.com and Nightline – have eclipsed 8 million views, collectively, while the channel has quickly reached 13 million views, buoyed by its nearly 120,000 subscribers. On June 26, Pentatonix will release their debut EP – PTX Volume 1 – courtesy of Madison Gate Records. The release is a celebration of their musical diversity and sonic proof that the right five voices can effectively and expertly deliver a pop song. The EP includes 4 covers, highlighted with the group's Gotye track, as well as 's "Starships," Imogen Heap's "Aha!" and Jasmine Sullivan's "Love You Long Time." Additionally, the EP also includes two original songs. Pentatonix will be supporting PTX Volume 1 on the road and online throughout the summer and fall, as well as continuing to create new music, consistently testing any and every preconception of what a cappella music is and just how big it can be.
